

What is the General Plan Update?
California law requires that each county and city in the state develop and adopt a General Plan.
A General Plan serves as the constitution for long-term physical development in a given region. The Humboldt County General Plan, which covers all unincorporated areas of the County, is currently being updated.

In 2004 the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors adopted language based on public input to help guide the General Plan Update process. These principles direct the General Plan to include, amongst other things: increased opportunities for living wage jobs; an adequate supply of affordable housing, and unambiguous natural resource protections.

The General Plan Update is divided into twelve main chapters, or Elements. This section contains information specific to each Element as well as Healthy Humboldt's policy recommendations and other pertinent information.
